Case Study: Enhancing Visitor Experience at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park With
Premium Evergreen Hedging
We were delighted to work once again with Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, a long-standing client who returned to Hedging UK to enhance another key area of their site. Following the success of a previous hedging project around their walkthrough area, the team approached us to help improve privacy, appearance, and visitor experience around their newly developed toilet facilities.
This case study highlights how the right hedging, delivered quickly and in top condition, can transform a public space.
Project Overview
Lincolnshire Wildlife Park wanted to create a space that felt private, welcoming, and visually cohesive with their existing visitor routes. The new toilet facilities needed screening that was attractive, durable, and in keeping with the natural aesthetic already established elsewhere in the park.
To achieve this, they ordered a carefully selected mix of 38 evergreen hedging plants, chosen both for practicality and year-round impact:
-
20 Griselinia
-
6 Cherry Laurel
-
6 Portuguese Laurel
-
6 Photinia ‘Red Robin’
This combination mirrors the hedge varieties used in a previous Hedging UK project on site, helping tie everything together seamlessly across the visitor experience.
Fast, Reliable Delivery
The order was dispatched within 2 days and arrived well-packaged on a pallet to protect the roots and foliage.
The team at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park commented that the plants arrived:
“In great health, really well packaged, and they’ll make such a difference to our visitors.”
Every plant was nursery-fresh, UK-grown, and ready to establish quickly in its new surroundings.
Design & Installation
The park finished the area with blue granite, creating a clean and visually appealing pathway.
Griselinia – Creating a Welcoming Walkway
The 20 Griselinia plants were placed along the main walkway, chosen for their glossy evergreen foliage and tidy growth habit.
These will be pruned into a neat, dense hedge, forming a bright, inviting corridor for visitors as they approach the facilities.
Cherry Laurel – Screening Non-Public Areas
Cherry Laurels were strategically positioned to provide a natural boundary around areas not open to the public.
Their fast, dense growth makes them perfect for softening and screening operational spaces.
Portuguese Laurel & Photinia – Adding Structure & Colour
Portuguese Laurel adds depth and elegance to the layout, while Photinia ‘Red Robin’ offers seasonal colour with its vibrant red new growth. Together, they create an uplifting evergreen backdrop that feels both natural and carefully designed.
Continuing a Cohesive Site-Wide Look
This project builds directly on a previous installation where the same hedge varieties were planted around a busy walkthrough area. Using the same species mix ensures:
-
A consistent look throughout the park
-
Easy long-term maintenance
-
A seamless visual flow from one visitor area to the next
It also reinforces the park’s commitment to creating green, wildlife-friendly spaces that enhance both biodiversity and visitor enjoyment.
Results
The new hedging:
✔ Enhances privacy around facilities
✔ Improves aesthetics with year-round greenery
✔ Directs visitors naturally through pathways
✔ Creates a cohesive look across multiple areas of the park
✔ Offers environmentally friendly, sustainable screening
The team at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park were thrilled with how the hedges immediately elevated the space—and even more excited about how they’ll look once fully grown in.
